Utility cost per cycle$0.18
Electricity component$0.16
Water component$0.02
Monthly cost$3.99
Annual cost$47.84

What this means

This covers electricity and water for the selected cycle; add detergent and any separate sewer charge for a fuller budget.

Show calculation
  1. Electricity = 1 kWh × $0.16/kWh
  2. Water = 12 L ÷ 1,000 × $2.00 per m³
  3. Annual cost = $0.18 × 5 cycles/week × 52; monthly = annual ÷ 12.

Important notes

Use per-cycle electricity that includes the heating energy you intend to count. External hot-water supply energy may be excluded by the appliance label.

Rates are displayed in USD; fixed utility charges and detergent are excluded.

Calculation basis: Energy and water cost calculation

Separate electricity and water charges to understand what one dishwasher cycle costs. Use consumption for the actual program you run. If the appliance specification includes water-heating energy, avoid adding it a second time; if it excludes externally heated water, this result omits that extra energy.

How to use

  1. Enter kWh and water volume per cycle from a specification or measurement.
  2. Enter electricity and water prices in the displayed units, including variable sewer charges in the water rate if appropriate.
  3. Set cycles per week and compare the electricity and water components.

How the calculation works

Formula

Cycle cost = cycle kWh × electricity tariff + cycle water volume × water tariff in matching units. Annual cost = cycle cost × weekly cycles × 52; monthly average = annual ÷ 12.

Example

A cycle using 1 kWh and 10 liters costs $0.20 for electricity at $0.20/kWh, plus $0.03 for water at $3/m³. The combined utility cost is $0.23 per cycle.

Factors affecting the result

  • Eco, intensive and heated-dry programs can have different energy use.
  • Water tariffs may include a separate volumetric sewer charge.
  • Detergent, fixed utility fees and maintenance are not included.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use an annual energy-label number?

Only convert it to per-cycle use if you know the label cycle count and what energy it includes. A program-specific figure is easier to interpret.

Does this include detergent?

No. It estimates electricity and water only. Add your detergent cost per cycle separately when budgeting total operating costs.
